About Kennebunkport

Kennebunk, which translates to "long cut bank" was named by local Indian tribes as many as five hundred years ago. This historic shore community is located on the south east coast of Maine, just 90 miles north of Boston and a short drive from New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania. From the historic downtown, museums, charming shops, galleries and fine dining establishments, to the lobster shacks, fishing piers, casual eateries and sandy beaches, Kennebunkport offers an exceptional experience,  a wonderful escape and walk into its seaside past.

With its scenic roads dotted with vegetable and flower stands, historic homes and the mansions of Sea Captains of days gone by,  Kennebunkport is connected to the nearby towns of Kennebunk, Wells, Ogunquit and Biddeford by roadways established by settlers over the rolling hills of this spectacular part of south east Maine.

Established as shipbuilding and farming settlement in the 1600’s along the shores of the Mousam and Kennebunk rivers, which was part of Wells at the time, Kennebunkport has stood on its own for more than 100 years as a world-famous travel destination.   You can take an Amazing Photo Tour of Kennebunkport here and see the full history of Kennebunkport here.
